Anyone for Tea?

Rachael's Recent Trip to Sri Lanka with Wendy Wu Tours

Recently, I had the opportunity to experience Sri Lanka on a work trip with Wendy Wu Tours - and it truly exceeded expectations. From vibrant cities to lush tea plantations and incredible wildlife, this itinerary showcases just how diverse and rewarding Sri Lanka can be.

But First, a Singapore Stopover.

After settling in, the group enjoyed dinner at Blue Ginger before heading out on an evening tour through Marina Bay and the Esplanade. Seeing the city come alive at night was the perfect introduction to the trip.

The following morning included a visit to Gardens by the Bay, exploring both the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest—an impressive experience and well worth including in any Singapore stopover.

Arriving in Colombo, the group was greeted with a warm “Ayubowan”—a traditional Sri Lankan welcome wishing long life. After checking in at Cinnamon Lakeside, it was time to relax and unwind before the adventure truly began.

Day three brought a scenic journey inland to Nuwara Eliya. The drive itself was a highlight, with rolling hills, lush greenery and cooler temperatures giving it a completely different feel - earning its nickname, “Little England.” The group visited a tea plantation, where they learnt about the production of world-renowned Ceylon tea and enjoyed a fresh cup right at the source. High tea at Jetwing St Andrew’s was the perfect way to end the day.

One of the most iconic experiences of the trip was the train to Ella. Travelling through misty mountains, tea estates and waterfalls, it's one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world.

Crossing the famous Nine Arch Bridge was a real highlight. Ella itself is relaxed and picturesque—the perfect place to slow down and take in the surrounding scenery. From Ella, the journey continued to Yala, with a stop at the stunning Ravana Ella Falls.

That evening featured a beach BBQ under the stars at Jetwing Yala. The next day was dedicated to safari in Yala National Park. Early morning and afternoon game drives offered the chance to spot elephants, deer, birdlife and even the elusive leopard. Renowned for its wildlife encounters, it certainly lived up to its reputation.

On the final day, the journey returned to Colombo via Sri Lanka’s beautiful southern coast, with stops in Weligama, Unawatuna and the historic Galle Fort. It was the perfect way to wrap up the trip - combining coastal scenery with a touch of history.

Sri Lanka is a destination that surprises at every turn.

Yours in travel, Rachael
